7 Tips to Help You Choose a Handbag That Fits Easily Into Your Wardrobe

 By Sheila Dicks

There is no doubt about it; handbags are a very popular accessory item. There are so many different designs, shapes and colors available that it is almost impossible to choose just one, leaving many women with a closet full of handbags. Sounds like a good thing? Well, not always.

Having a lot of handbags to choose from won’t improve your appearance if you select one that clashes with your outfit – which so often happens.  Actually, having many to choose from might make creating a wow outfit even more difficult. Not many women have time to think about which handbag to grab when they’re running late or have other things on their mind. What’s the solution? Choose bags in neutral colors and opt for just few unusual or colorful bags.

Here are a few guidelines to help you choose a bag that fits easily into your wardrobe and adds to your wow factor.

  1. The first thing to look for is a bag in a neutral color (black, grey, brown, navy) that will harmonize with your wardrobe colors. This will be the bag you will use most of the time.

  1. For work or business, choose a bag in a neutral color with few details. A business handbag should be understated and not stand out as a fashion item.

  1. You handbag should be in proportion to your body size. For example, a large handbag will look better on a large woman.

  1. Your handbag should be able to fit everything you want to carry and not be bulging, especially if it is a large bag.

  1. Don’t go from the extreme of having lots of handbags to not having changed your handbag in years. Your handbag should be modern and not look like it came from your great Granma’s closet (unless your Grandma is chic).

  1. Match your bag to your outfit and the occasion. For example, when attending a cocktail party carry a clutch not a tote.

  1. Designer handbags are not a fast track fashionable. Although they are popular, expensive and come in lots of beautiful styles, remember if it’s not matched correctly it will do your appearance more harm than good.

Don’t underestimate the power of your handbag. It is a very necessary and convenient accessory but it should also compliment your look and add to your style.
